Fall Ride

Last Saturday we went on the Headwaters 100 bike ride with Dan & Jennifer. The guys planned to ride the 100 mile route and Jennifer & I signed up for the 45 mile route. The weather in the morning was cloudy and a bit cool, but it turned out to be great riding weather. It was nice to have cloud cover, especially when you're working hard to get up those hills. Your reward for making it up the hill is getting to ride down the hill at 20+ mph (I know this because of the handy bike computer that Joel gave me for my birthday).

The scenery was terrific and it was very peaceful riding through the trees (on paved roads, that is). There were several rest stops along the way with great food & snacks to keep the riders going. Unfortunately Jennifer's knee was acting up on the ride and decided not to make things worse (wise choice!), so she caught a ride back after 35 miles. I took off for the finish line on my own and went 47.4 miles (to be exact). My total ride time was around 4 hours & 20 minutes (doesn't include time spent at rest stops). After about 60 miles one of Joel's tires blew out (there was a deep slash in his tire). So he got a ride back to the finish line and was bummed he couldn't finish. Dan (the birthday guy!) gets the prize for most miles on Saturday - he went 85 miles.

Overall, I think all of us enjoyed the ride and would like to do it again next year. We all agreed it would have been nice to stay overnight until Sunday (instead of driving home after the ride) to relax those sore muscles a bit!

CJ stayed overnight with Grandpa & Grandma Bjorge and was such a good little boy. We called them on Friday night after we got to the motel and he was having such a great time that he barely had time to say "hi" on the phone.

Here are a few pictures taken from the trail:

I love this sumac!
