Surprise Trip

Joel took me on a surprise trip last weekend to a bed & breakfast. We had visited this same B&B four years ago and it was great to go back for some relaxation. Joel had arranged everything - my parents were babysitting, some friends were taking care of the dogs, and he had packed suitcases for all 3 of us. Busy guy! Joel is great at planning surprises and I never suspected a thing.

CJ fell asleep on the trip to my parents' house
(I thought his head resting on his hand was so cute).

The B&B overlooks a very nice lake. Thankfully the weather
was nice on Saturday so we could enjoy time outside!

Each room at the B&B is named after someone in the owner's family. Our room was the Christopher room, a small cottage decorated in an Americana theme.

The main floor had a sitting area, fireplace, and bathroom.

One wouldn't normally mention the bathroom, but we had to laugh (and take a picture of it!) because it was so small. Joel was a good sport in this picture - I hope he doesn't mind that I'm posting this on the blog!

Here Joel is standing on the stairs going up to the loft area. These steps were quite steep and small - it reminded me of steps in an old farm house. There was no TV - just peace and quiet. We enjoyed relaxing in our cottage!

Saturday evening Joel & I ate dinner out, played mini-golf, and had an ice cream treat afterward. It was been quite awhile since we had a date night!

Here are some pictures of the living room area at the main house - quite elegant living quarters, especially for a family lake home built in the late 1890s.

The next morning we had breakfast in the main dining room. The food was delicious and we had a nice time talking with the other couples that were staying at the B&B.

The grandson of the man that had the house built ate breakfast with us too and told some fun stories and history about the area and house. Our favorite breakfast item was the granola - it was put in a goblet and topped with fresh strawberries and cream. How often do you have an excuse to eat cream? It was delicious!

Thanks to those who helped make this trip possible...and thanks especially to Joel for planning the surprise trip. It was a terrific getaway!
