Two of my Cobber friends (Andrea & Amanda) invited me to a beginner's knitting class. We had our first class this week and had an absolute blast! We agreed that at first, the whole knitting motion felt very awkward and took a lot of concentration. As we practiced during class, it started to feel more natural.
We are learning to make potholders. Our teacher is excellent and very patient with us beginners. The first week we learned the basic garter stitch and the next 2 weeks we'll learn the purl stitch and other techniques. Our class is at a quaint little shop in town. There are chairs arranged at the front of the store, designed for people to sit and knit together. There was a group of ladies gathered there - they even had coffee and a treat to eat!
I was able to get a few rows knitted during our 90-minute class. Aren't these knitting needles cool? They are much easier to work with than the long traditional metal ones.
Once I got home from class, I was ready to pick up the knitting needles again and practice my new skills. Knitting is quite fun, almost addicting once you get started! Both Amanda & Andrea said that they sat down to knit after they got home from our first class too. We're hooked!! We were joking that we can all look forward to new potholders as gifts from each other.
Hi, Carrie,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new hobby! Bestemor would have been proud. I think most knitters find it relaxing - and that's got to help a busy mom of a little guy who is in almost constant motion. Give you boys a hug from me.
Love, Dad
