A few weeks ago we had CJ's first school conference with his preschool teacher Miss Sue. Among the items she mentioned include:
* He can count to 15 (sometimes 20) and knows the shapes & colors
* He is doing well trying to write the upper & lowercase letters (they focus on one letter each week)
* CJ seems to really enjoy art projects and uses scissors well. She gave them various things to do to "test" their skills, one being cutting out 4 different shapes. I was impressed with how well he did this because we don't have him use scissors at home
* He does have some time periods where he has selective listening (no surprise there) but she said that is completely normal for this age group. She said preschool is meant to be a time to prepare for kindergarten
* Sue made a special note to say how cute CJ tells stories and that he really likes to speak up during circle time (I have noticed during Sunday school class that CJ likes to participate and answer questions). The preschool kids can bring in items for show tell or tell a story related to that week’s theme. She said we / he does a good job of coming up with ideas. I told her honestly I think it is mostly CJ because we haven’t given him many ideas or items to bring for show & tell. I think he just tells stories on the fly during class!
All in all it sounds like he is really enjoying preschool! We think it is good for him to have something to focus on for a few hours each morning, rather than having the whole day in the daycare room. He still gets plenty of play time during the day too.
While I'm posting about preschool, here are a few more winter art projects from his preschool & daycare rooms:
