We left on a Saturday morning and got donuts on the way out of town. We drove the whole way to Rapid City that day. It was a long trip, but CJ was a good traveler. We purchased the first season of The Flintstones cartoon because we were going to visit Bedrock Village later on our trip. That kept him occupied, along with reading books, playing on his computer, etc.
We had absolutely beautiful weather on our trip - for that we are truly thankful!
The first night we decided to camp at Sylvan Lake, right in the heart of the Black Hills. It is a gorgeous spot to be and is near the Needles Highway. (We stayed in motels the rest of the trip.)
We arrived at Sylvan mid-afternoon, so we had plenty of time to set up our tent and hike around the area.
Our campsite was right next to a shallow stream. CJ had a great time throwing rocks in the water!
We made hot dogs at our campsite for supper, it was a fun picnic!
After supper we hiked around Sylvan Lake. The trail included quite a bit of rock climbing, but CJ was up for the task and did quite well! CJ had a good time looking through the small binoculars.
There was a group of guys rock climbing -
We roasted marshmallows around the fire later that night and ate breakfast overlooking the stream. It was very refreshing to breathe in all of that fresh air!
If you want a spot to camp in the Black Hills, we highly recommend Sylvan Lake!

Such beautiful pictures of scenery... and cute people too! Love ya! Mom and Dad M.
ReplyDeleteWe have enjoyed a couple of trips to the Black Hills and are always impressed by how blue the sky appears, and the contrast of the rocks and trees-very beautiful. Looks like you guys had tons of fun.
