On Sunday Joel & CJ made a trip to Andes - they had a terrific ski day together! I stayed home to rest up after being sick on Saturday and I also went into work and got a lot done.
I think Joel has been itching to get out skiing. We haven't had much snow yet this winter, so this was one of the first opportunities to get out. Joel & CJ made a whole day of skiing and it sounds like they had such a fun time. Joel said when they got there, he got CJ all set up and out on the snow and he acted like he didn't remember much about what to do. They went to the bunny hill and CJ did fine. At the bottom Joel said he asked CJ if he wanted to go again and he said "Why? Can't we do the big hill?" :-) So they went right up the lift and started skiing on a green run.
Joel said CJ does one green run all by himself really well. We're not so sure that CJ is a natural at basketball, but he sure seems to be a natural skier!
Joel took several videos of CJ skiing on the green runs - they are so fun to watch! Joel said CJ loves going down the hill fast, but he did a fantastic job of slowing down and maneuvering around people when it got a little busier on the hill.
They even tried a blue run and a black run a few times with Joel holding onto CJ with the straps attached to CJ's pack (see the photo below from last year to see what I mean). I couldn't believe CJ has already been on a black run (with help)! Joel said CJ stayed up on the harder runs and Joel held CJ back from going too fast on the blue & black runs.
In all, Joel said they skied about 5 hours total (not counting breaks). What a day!
They stopped at Ole & Lena's Pizza on the way home for supper. Joel said CJ almost finished an 8" pizza all by himself. I'm sure they had to replenish all of those calories that they burned after skiing for 5 hours.
I'm afraid that if I go skiing with these two, I'm going to be left in the dust!

That is amazing, Carrie! I can't believe how comfortable he looks while speeding down the hill - and so in control. And he's so little! What a talented boy!
ReplyDeleteCJ sure does a good job - still makes me nervous to see how fast he goes but he looks well protected with the helmet etc. Wonder how the photographer keeps from knocking someone over. I asked CJ if he saw any snowboarders. He smiled and said, Yes, and they do tricks. Oh my, so not ready for that. Grandma B
ReplyDeleteAmazing Joel and CJ!! Grandma would definitely be left in the dust... at the top of the hill! :) Glad you had such a good time! Love ya! Gpa Pete and Gma LoAnn
