In July I was on a cleaning and organizing spree. I have managed to clean out several drawers and cupboards and I have to say it has been very satisfying. (There are many more areas to tackle though!)
While I was cleaning, I came across almost 10 phone books from the past few years (honestly, I can't remember the last time I even opened one). Why on earth are so many phone books delivered to our doorstep when most (if not all) of this information is available online? To me it's ridiculous and a complete waste!
Unfortunately our city recycling service doesn't allow phone books in the curbside pickup bins, so I will bring our stack to the recycling bins at the grocery store next time they are out this fall.
I was happy to read an article with a link where you can opt out of receiving some or all of the phone books delivered in your area. Just type in your zip code and opt out of the ones you don't want to receive anymore. http://www.yellowpagesoptout.com/
I tried this, so we'll see how it works. The downside of this is some publishers note it can take up to 3 years to be removed from their lists. Again, this seems crazy to me, but hopefully in the long run we can get rid of phone books in our house!
