Pea Pick

Tuesday evening we went to Bluebird Gardens and picked 5 gallons of sugar snap peas! We could have picked up to 10 gallons with our harvest coupon, but we arrived at the field after work and by 8:15pm the mosquitoes were getting annoying.

CJ is an excellent pea picker! I found him a plant and showed him how to move the branches back so he could pick toward the middle of the plant too. He stuck with it for 90 minutes and wanted to keep picking (despite the mosquitoes coming out)!

It was a great evening to be out, even though the temperature was in the upper 80s. A light breeze would come through now & then, which made it quite nice!

Now & then CJ would ask me if a pea was big enough to pick and I told him now that he's 5 years old, he can make the decision on whether to pick it or not. He had so much fun in the field!

We are enjoying our weekly boxes of fresh produce from Bluebird Gardens. If you haven't ever been a CSA member before, we highly recommend it!

  1. What a great pea picker you are Christopher! We are so proud of you that you are such a cheerful and great helper! :) They are fun to pick and fun to eat! I remember shelling peas at my Grandpa and Grandma Ekeberg's farm.... we sat on the porch and shelled lots and lots of peas, then they were blanched and put in the freezer to eat later. So very tasty! Love ya! Grandma LoAnn and Grandpa Pete
