Safety Town

CJ went to the Safety Town program the last two weeks in June for two hours each morning. The program is for kids going into kindergarten and is sponsored by the Optimist Club. Each group has about 15 kids and each session has 4 groups. Each group has a teacher that is employed by the public schools. The leader said they had over 350 kids attend during June. They learned about many great topics, including crossing the street, traffic signs & stoplights, taking a school bus, staying away from harmful chemicals & poisons, riding bikes, etc. They had 5 days where the kids were to bring their bike helmets - they had enough bikes onsite so each child in the group would have a bike to ride. Each teacher had the kids practice riding bikes and following directions with the traffic signs. They also had visits to the classroom from police officers and fire fighters. We thought it was a great program!

On the last day the kids had a Safety Town graduation ceremony. As part of the gathering, they sang several songs they had learned during their class. The songs were incredibly cute and I have posted some videos below.

Here is the first song they sang every morning: "Good morning everyone, we will stick together. Good morning everyone, in all kinds of weather."

"Somebody loves you buckle up, buckle up, buckle up...every time you ride."

"Wear your safety belt, wear your safety belt, every trip, every trip. You'll be safer with it, you'll be safer with it, so will Mom, so will Dad."

"If you don't know what it is, stay away. If you don't know what it is, stay away. If you don't know what it is, find a grownup right away, if you don't know what it is, stay away." Second verse: "If you think it might be poison, stay away...."

"Let's be careful, let's be careful. I'll help you and you help me!"

Each morning we would take CJ to Safety Town and then his daycare would bus the kids to their full-day preschool classrooms. I followed CJ over to his bus and just had to take a photo - what a big kid riding the bus with his friends!
