Train Trip

CJ has been very interested in trains lately. He watches a few cartoons with trains (Chuggington and Dinosaur Train) and got a new train set for his birthday too! (Photos from his birthday are still coming, by the way.)

Part of CJ's birthday present from G&G Bjorge was an Amtrak train ticket. It was so neat to have the opportunity to ride the train on Saturday as part of our Easter weekend trip!

The train was supposed to arrive at 3:35am, but it was running late and eventually we boarded around 4:30am. The whole train trip ended up being slower due to the higher water levels along the route, but that was just fine with us.

All 3 of us slept on the train for a few hours and then ate granola bars (and other snacks) for breakfast. CJ was content to just sit and look out the window for quite awhile, he seemed to really enjoy riding on the train!

(Don't we look just lovely after getting up at 2am to drive to the train station?!)

We spent a lot of time in the observation car, where there are large floor-to-ceiling windows!

CJ practiced writing numbers in his new Thomas the train workbook that my aunt Sara sent for his birthday. We also read a train book about the different types of cars, so whenever we would see a train on a nearby track, we would point out the various freight cars (oil, coal, etc.).

Ian (son of Joel's cousin Lisa) got on the train in Minot so he could spend Easter in Montana. It was nice to have Ian with us - he & CJ were good buddies!

We arrived in Williston around 1pm and ate lunch with Dean & Kathy before driving across the border to Montana. We were pretty hungry! I have lots of photos from our Easter weekend, stay tuned...
